On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 8:01 a.m., Athens Police Department officers responded to a traffic crash on Durham Drive, south of Sanderfer Road. This collision involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, Ryan Dean Troupe, (45, of Athens), was transported from the scene by ambulance. Troupe died from his injuries a short time later. This incident is still under investigation.
