It was not that long ago that Amazon opened a new, state-of-the-art facility in Limestone County. The site, built to pick, pack and ship some of the larger items available on its website, provides the company with 1 million square feet of space and created 500 jobs.

Amazon announced Tuesday, Nov. 9, it will be doubling the amount of facility space it has in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County. The new facility will also be one million square feet and will create 250 more jobs in the county.

“This is the second exciting announcement from Amazon,” Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly said. “This investment in our county and the 250 jobs that will be created by this project will greatly impact our future for many years. We would like to thank Amazon for believing in us, selecting our county for their second fulfillment center, and we look forward to being a part of their success in the future.”

According to a release from Amazon, the new facility will open in 2022.

“This ‘XL’ Non-Sortable facility is designed to receive, store and package heavy or bulky items like home appliances,” Amazon said. “The 1 million-square-foot facility will provide more than 250 full-time jobs and will utilize innovative technologies and energy-efficient, zero-emission power industrialized truck (PIT) equipment.”

The new center will mark 2 million square feet of Amazon warehouse space in Limestone County and 750 created jobs total. The new local center is one of four projects Amazon announced across the state on Tuesday.

“Amazon’s decision to simultaneously launch and announce these projects shows the high level of confidence the company has in the abilities of our hard-working citizens, who have shown time and time again that they can get the job done,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “Companies from around the world have discovered that offers them all the ingredients of success, and this is another prime example.”

According to officials with the Limestone County Economic Development Association, the new Amazon facility will be located near Buffalo Rock.
