John Wahl of Lester was elected Alabama Republican Party chairman Saturday. Wahl will serve a two-year term.

The Limestone County native previously served as senior vice chairman of the state GOP.

In late January when he announced his candidacy, Wahl said he knew the Republican party will be facing challenges in the next few years, but he aims to help the party be more effective and successful in that time.
