Athens native Ally Williams put two consistent rounds together and sits in third place of the Alabama Girls State Junior Championship, four shots back of the leader heading into Wednesday’s final round.

Williams carded a one-over par 73 in Monday’s first round and then shot a one-under par 71 in the second round to stand at even par heading into the final round.

Williams, who will be attending Mississippi State on a golf scholarship in the fall, finished second in this tournament last year, seven shots behind Michaela Morard, of Huntsville.

Morard, who is committed to play collegiately at Alabama, is looking to defend her title. She sits in first place by one stroke after shooting a four-under par 68 Tuesday. She is at 140 (-4) for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Midland City’s Lauren Thompson.

The Alabama State Girls Junior Championship is for female amateur golfers in Alabama who are younger than 19 years old as of June 24.

The tournament had a record 55 participants this year.

The Alabama Golf Association is the United States Golf Association’s liaison for golf in Alabama, conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system, including the GHIN Handicap service, course and slope rating and education.

The AGA annually conducts 19 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events, including the SEC Men’s Golf Championship.
