Five women have been formally charged in Limestone County for either possessing methamphetamine in the Limestone County Jail or conspiring together to commit an unlawful act involving contraband inside the jail, an official said.
The women were initially charged after a large plastic bag of meth was discovered Feb. 19 inside one jail cell and other smaller plastic bags containing meth residue were found in other shared areas of the jail, said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
Following an investigation, the five women were charged and recently indicted by a Limestone County grand jury, including:
• Camryn Sierra Cagle, 24, of 96 Saddle Ford Drive Road, Fayetteville, Tennessee, charged with unlawful act by prisoners and second-degree promoting prison contraband – methamphetamine;
• Lisa Rene Keeton, 35, of 20574 Todd Circle, No. 19, Athens, charged with unlawful act by prisoners;
• Marcia Lee Hughes, 37, of 21720 Piney Chapel Road, No. 2, Athens, charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband – meth;
• Lorna Darin Mitchell, 25, of 200 Summer Tree Court, Hazel Green, charged with unlawful act by prisoners; and
• Jessi Ashlin Ish, 27, of 24845 Cottonbelt Road, Elkmont, charged with unlawful act by prisoners.
Young said the bag of meth was found in Cagle’s jail cell while the bags of residue were found in common areas.
He said the report filed in the case did not detail how the drug was smuggled into the jail.
