- Artist Lee Shepherd will help students make art using flower pounding. The flowers dye the fabric naturally when pounded.
Artists at High Cotton Arts are pulling out the paintbrushes and other art supplies to prepare for the upcoming summer art camp for kids.
The camp will take place from 10 a.m. until noon Monday, June 24, through Friday, June 28, at High Cotton Arts, 103 W. Washington St., Athens.
The camp, facilitated by the artists of High Cotton Arts, is for kids ages 7 to 12.
Qualified instructors will feature different art projects for kids each day, according to organizers.
Local artist Sonya Gordon will teach color combinations using Sharpie markers and ceramic tiles. Students will each make a set of four coasters. The students will also create a color wheel painting using watercolors.
Artist Lee Shepherd will teach a portion of the weeklong classes. Shepherd will help students make art using flower pounding. He uses a technique in which the natural dyes in flowers are transferred to fabric by pounding.
A snack will be included each day.
The cost of camp is $100 per child with a $50 deposit. A few spots are still open.
