Diners who would rather order dinner from a rolling restaurant than a sit-down establishment should make plans to be at the next Fridays After Five event, presented by Athens Main Street.

Six food trucks will be at Friday’s event, set for 5 to 8 p.m. on The Square in Athens. The trucks will offer a wide range of food for virtually every palate.

Three of the trucks — New South Hot Dog, Spud Truck and TH Food Services (barbecue) — are new to Fridays After Five, though the Spud Truck made its debut at a previous Athens Saturday Market event. Other trucks scheduled to appear include Our Little Kitchen (New Orleans-inspired fare), Rita’s Italian Ice and Sno-Boss (snow cones).

“(There’s) nothing better on a Friday than great entertainment, friendly people and an awesome meal to compliment,” said Tyrone Harris, owner of TH Food Services.

In addition to the food trucks, Athens’ downtown restaurants will stay open later to provide food and beverage specials.

The upcoming Fridays After Five event will coincide with another installment of the Athens-Limestone Tourism Association’s summer concert series. Local Southern gospel quartet One Voice will perform from from 7 to 9 p.m.

There will also be a Kid’s Zone set up so youngsters can color or make friendship bracelets. The theme of the upcoming event is “Friendship.”

Fridays After Five organizers say it’s a great event that caters to the whole family, who can dine, shop and enjoy live entertainment while appreciating the historical aspect of the downtown area.

“Fridays After Five is such a fun event for the whole family. By staying open later, it gives us exposure to a crowd that we may have otherwise missed,” said Amy Higginbotham, owner of Trinity’s.
