A man arrested in January in connection to the theft of several air conditioner units in Elkmont was arrested again Monday because authorities believe he was following delivery trucks and stealing packages from porches, an official said.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman and deputy Stephen Young said the thefts occurred over the weekend, and victims are being sought. Residential and business cameras captured images of the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Cleabron Ray King. Young said “several witnesses” also witnessed the thefts.

Theft warrants were obtained on King using that information, as well as several social media posts.

“After receiving a tip that King was spotted at a local recycling business, they found King in the parking lot and advised him he had warrants and was under arrest,” Young said. “King attempted to enter his vehicle and was stopped, but he continued to ignore verbal commands to place his hands behind his back. King was taken to the ground and secured after he attempted to reach into his pants. Investigators found him in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.”

Investigators were able to recover several stolen items from his vehicle. Other items were recovered at his residence. Young said in addition to struggling with deputies, King also instructed his girlfriend to refuse to take the deputies to recover stolen property. The property was later recovered.

Body cam footage shows a deputy telling King, “We’re just trying to get people’s stuff back. It’s just restitution you won’t have to pay.”

King replies, “Man, I ain’t gonna pay it anyway. … So keep the (expletive deleted).”

The deputy then tells King, “That’s not how this works.”

The investigation determined King had likely been following delivery vehicles, and when a driver dropped off a package, he would pick the package up after the carrier left.

King was charged with five counts of fourth-degree possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $9,500.

Anyone who had a package stolen between June 6 and 10 is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 256-232-0111 and speak with Investigator Caleb Durden.

It’s not the first time King has attempted to fight deputies. During his Jan. 3 arrest, King struggled with deputies and injured an investigator. He was found to have meth on his person at that time, Young said, and was charged with second-degree assault.
