2 teens charged in fatal shooting of woman in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Alabama have charged a 14-year-old with murder in the shooting of an 18-year-old woman found dead in a car.

Tuscaloosa police tell news outlets a 15-year-old is also charged in the slaying with first-degree theft, abuse of a corpse and obstructing governmental operation. Police say officers responding to a report of an abandoned car on Sunday found the body of 18-year-old Elexis Lashelle McCool in the back seat.

Police say tips reported to authorities led officers to charge the teens. Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Kip Hart says the teens’ identities aren’t being released because of their ages. He says they’ll be held at a juvenile detention center pending a hearing.
