FLORENCE — Elkmont had a late night Thursday, and saw its season come to an end with a loss Friday morning in the Class 4A North Regional softball tournament.
After staving off elimination late Thursday night, the Red Devils were stymied by Rogers pitcher Hannah Price in a 5-1 loss in an elimination game Friday morning.
Price was dominant in the circle, only allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out 10 Elkmont batters.
Rogers scored two runs in the top of the first before Elkmont answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. But the Pirates quickly retook control with two runs in the second, and then gave Price all the run insurance she would need with another tally in the fourth.
Haven Kirby had a double to lead Elkmont, while Brilee Miller, Hannah Usery and Alli Griffis also had hits for the Red Devils.
Elkmont 2, DAR 0
Elkmont began its tournament with a victory over DAR thanks to a dominant pitching performance by Hannah Usery.
Usery was in complete control, and held DAR to just five hits, while striking out three batters.
Elkmont only had five hits of its own, but all five of them were for extra bases.
Haven Kirby and Abby Gooch both hit home runs, while Kirby, Alyssa Harwell and Sydney Pressnell each hit doubles.
Kirby’s solo homer in the bottom of the third inning gave the Elkmong the lead, while Gooch’s homer leading off the fourth gave the Red Devils a cushion.
Usery took care of the rest.
Wilson 12, Elkmont 1
Wilson showed why it was one of the favorites to advance to the Class 4A state tournament with a big win over Elkmont Thursday night.
The Warriors had a 4-0 lead after two innings and then scored five runs in the top of the third to blow the game open. Wilson then scored three in the top of the fourth to give themselves an 11-run lead and end the game early when Elkmont couldn’t rally. The Red Devils were held to just three hits in the game.
Elkmont’s only run came on a solo home run by Haven Kirby. Brilee Miller had a double, while Abby Gooch singled for Elkmont’s other hit.
Elkmont 10, Madison Academy 2
Elkmont stayed alive in the tournament with a big win over Madison Academy very late Thursday. The game didn’t begin until 10:30 p.m., and was shortened to five innings due to the clock striking midnight.
Haven Kirby continued her monster regional tournament by slugging yet another home run. This time, it came with runners on base, as she smashed a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
Montana Crowe and Paige Robinson also homered for the Red Devils, with Crowe hitting a solo shot in the third and Robinson also drilling a solo blast in the fourth.
Sydney Pressnell and Alli Griffis each had three hits for Elkmont, while Emeril Hand, Alyssa Harwell and Abby Gooch had hits as well.
Crowe pitched the first four innings to pick up the win, while Usery pitched the final inning to close out the game.
