Locals perform well in state track and field meets

Several local athletes took home top 10 finishes in the Alabama High School Athletics Association state track and field meet over the weekend.

Five of those athletes stood on the podium with a top-three finish. The Class 1A-3A meet took place in Cullman while the Class 4A-7A meet was held in Gulf Shores.
East Limestone’s Alexander Robinson performed the best of all local athletes at state, earning a podium position with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Robinson completed the race in 50.38 seconds. East Limestone teammate JaJuan Powell also made the finals of the event, finishing eighth in a time of 51.14 seconds.
Robinson also made the finals of the 200-meter dash and finished seventh in the race in a time of 22.36 seconds.
Robinson made the podium as part of East Limestone’s 4×400-meter relay team, which finished third in a time of 3:31.69. The team consists of Robinson, Powell, La’Garian Gilbert and Christopher Willingham.
Ardmore’s Bryson Rolin took home a top 10 finish in the Class 5A meet, placing ninth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.05 seconds.
The Class 1A boys meet featured numerous top 10 finishes by local runners. Athens Bibles’ Nicolas Ulrich led the group, finishing fourth in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run. Ulrich’s time in the 800 meters was 2:07.54, while his time in the 1,600 meters was 4:56.67.

Two other local runners finished in the top 10 in the 800-meter race. Lindsay Lane Christian’s Palmer Smith finished seventh in a time of 2:08.75, and his teammate Jack Anderson placed ninth in a time of 2:12.16.
Athens Bible also had a top-10 finisher in the discus, with Ethan Wiles coming in a strong sixth with a toss of 112 feet, 1 inch.
In the Class 1A girls meet, Lindsay Lane had a pair of top-10 finishers. Whitney Prise-Cook finished fifth in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.75 seconds, while Sydney Perkins placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.20.
In the Class 3A boys meet, the Clements 4×100-meter relay team of William Braden, Brayden Smith, Caden Guimarin and Brandon Witmuss qualified for the final. They finished sixth in a time of 47.02 seconds.
Four Athens High School athletes finished in the top 10 in the Class 6A boys meet. Keenan Hambrick led the group, finishing sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches.
Two athletes finished in the top 10 in the discus, with Caden Shoulders coming in eighth with a toss of 141 feet, 10 inches, and JaCaury Mason placing 10th with a throw of 132 feet, 7 inches.
Santravious Henderson took home an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 48 feet, 1.75 inches.
