Dear Editor:

The American Rosie the Riveter Association is trying to locate women who worked on the home front during World War II.

Thousands of women worked to support the war effort as riveters, welders, electricians, inspectors in plants, sewing clothing and parachutes for the military, ordinance workers, rolling bandages, clerical, farming, and many other jobs such as volunteer workers collecting scrap metals and other critical materials.

These women have stories of their WWII experiences that are of historical value and perhaps have never been told. The American Rose the Riveter Association would like to acknowledge these women with a certificate and have their stories placed in our archives.

The association is a patriotic and nonprofit organization whose purpose is to recognize and preserve the history and legacy of working women during WWII. This organization was founded in 1998 by Dr. Frances Carter of Birmingham and now has more than 5,100 members nationwide. Current elected officers are from Georgia, Maryland, Texas, Missouri and Alabama all serve on a volunteer basis.

If you are a woman who worked during WWII, a descendant of a woman who worked during WWII, or if you are just interested in more information, please call 1-888-557-6743 or email americanrosietheriveter2@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Border options

Dear Editor:

Las Cruces, New Mexico, has so far received 178 migrants apprehended by the border patrol, with more expected to be unloaded in southern New Mexico and in El Paso, Texas.

This puts the lie to recent reports that the “option” had been discussed but rejected. Las Cruces is about 20 miles from the border, and El Paso is on the border, so at least they’re not shipping them hundreds of miles to, say San Francisco.

Still, it is a start on Trump and company dumping people on cities without providing anything to support them. Cruelty toward immigrants is now being extended to include American citizens who feel compassion for their plight.

Meanwhile, Trump has announced the cancelation of State Department aid programs that had been helping to stabilize Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, which means more people will be making the trek to America for safety.

Sincerely,

David Williams
