Jazz lovers should make plans to attend the third annual Jazz Under the Stars, hosted by Calhoun Community College and Calhoun Foundation.

The concert, which will feature The Sean Nowell Quartet, Calhoun Jazz Band and Calhoun Chorale, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, on the lawn of the Alabama Center for the Arts, 133 Second Ave. NE, Decatur. In case of rain, the free concert will move to the Princess Theatre.

Nowell was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and studied at Samford University. From Samford, he went on to study at The Berklee School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music prior to beginning his full-time career as a touring, teaching and recording saxophonist.

“Having Sean in Decatur to perform for the community, as well as to meet with students, is a wonderful opportunity,” said Johnette Davis, director of the Calhoun Foundation.

A ticketed, pre-event dinner is also planned for the evening. A limited number of seats are still available for that event.

Proceeds from the dinner and sponsorships will go toward supporting the Calhoun Foundation and music education programs at Calhoun.
