Baseball and softball players across Limestone County were ready to play Friday in the baseball playoffs and softball county tournament. But Mother Nature had other plans in mind.

Thunderstorms Thursday night and rain showers Friday forced the postponement of all softball and baseball games Friday. The games will instead be played today.

The Limestone County Softball Tournament will have the biggest adjustments. The tournament was supposed to be a double-elimination tournament that took place Friday and today at Elkmont High School and City Park in Elkmont.

With Friday’s games being canceled due to rain, the tournament will now be single elimination and begin 9 a.m. today at Elkmont High School.

The tournament will begin 9 a.m. with No. 4 seed West Limestone taking on fifth-seeded Clements. The next game will begin 10:45 and will feature sixth-seeded Tanner facing No. 3 seed Elkmont.

Top-seeded Ardmore will take on the winner of the West Limestone-Clements game at 12:30 p.m., with East Limestone playing the winner of the Tanner-Elkmont game at 2:15.

The tournament championship game will take place at 4 p.m. It is the second consecutive season the tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament.

Last season, it had to be shortened due to prom at East Limestone, where the tournament was held.

The high school baseball playoffs are also rescheduled due to rain, with all four local teams in the playoffs having their first-round games pushed to today.

Athens Bible will host Hackleburg at 1 and 3 p.m. today, while East Limestone will host Arab at 5 and 7 p.m. An if-necessary third game would take place Monday. Athens Bible would play at 3:30 p.m., while East Limestone would play at 6.

Athens High and West Limestone will both be playing their first-round series on the road today. West Limestone is playing at Wilson, with games set for noon and 2:30 p.m. Athens is playing at Hazel Green with the first game set for 2 p.m. and the second game scheduled for 4.

An if-necessary third game would take place Monday at Wilson and Hazel Green, respectively.
