Limestone Countians need to remain weather aware today as a strong cold front approaches from the west.
Thunderstorms will increase in coverage by the mid to late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville. Scattered severe storms will be possible, mainly during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Damaging straight-line winds will be the primary threat with the strongest activity, but an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
Locally heavy rainfall will also be a concern, which may result in minor flooding of roads and low-lying areas. The threat for severe weather will diminish from west to east after midnight.
Excessive rainfall that may occur on Thursday could lead to additional rises on a few rivers, and possible minor river flooding late this week into the weekend.
