East Limestone scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to stake themselves to an early lead and cruised to a 10-6 victory over Madison County Wednesday afternoon.

After Madison County took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, Kaci Sharp hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to tie the score before the Indians scored five in the second to pull away.

Sharp had an RBI double in the second, while Olivia Crouch drove in a run with a single, and Rylie Grisham drove in two with a double. P Williams also had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

East scored two more in the third, and then closed the scoring with two runs in the sixth.

The Indians had 13 hits in the game, including Sharp’s homer and double. Madison Watkins had a triple, while Grisham, Mallory Jo Mitchell and Cassidy Sowell had doubles.

Mitchell led the team with three hits, while Preslei Williams also had a hit and two RBIs for East.

Crouch was the winning pitcher, giving up three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Brooks 15, Clements 13

Clements scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score, but ultimately came up short in extra innings against Brooks.

The Colts entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 12-5, but made a thrilling comeback to tie the score. Tessa McElyea and Emrey McGill had RBI singles in the inning, while Jenny Trent tied the game with a two-run single.

Unfortunately for the Colts, they couldn’t keep the momentum going. Brooks scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning, and Clements could only answer with one run in the bottom of the frame.

Trent had three hits and two RBIs to lead Clements, while Anslee Gordon had two hits and drove in three runs. Janiah Anderson also had two hits, and Sarah Jo Moss hit a double.

Correction

Tuesday’s article about the Athens-Muscle Shoals softball game had incorrect information. Brenin Ezell pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and no runs in the Golden Eagles’ 10-2 victory. We regret the error and are happy to set the record straight.
