Reunion luncheon
Former employees, vendors and friends of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company are invited to a reunion luncheon 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Mildred’s Restaurant in Ardmore.
Fish fry
Limestone County NAACP will host a fish fry 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Friday, April 19,at Lincoln Bridgeforth Park, 815 Westview Ave., Athens. Cost is $10 per person and includes fish plate, dessert and drink. More information: Terry Byrd, 256-497-4359.
Elkmont Beautywalk
The 14th annual Elkmont Beautywalk will be Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20. Registration open through April 1. $35 to enter with additional $5 to enter photogenic category. Registration held in the lunchroom with places provided to dress and prepare for competition. Friday night will be kindergarten through fifth grade, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. The infants through preschool division will begin 2 p.m. Saturday. Grades 6–12 and 12th-grade guys division will be Saturday night. Tickets $5 at the door. There will be a People’s Choice category to vote for your favorite contestant. Proceeds benefit the Elkmont High School Band.

Plant sale
The Limestone County Master Gardeners Association will have its annual plant sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m Saturday, April 20, at the greenhouse behind Athens Middle School. For sale will be perennials, trees, shrubs, annuals, vegetables, handmade pots, whirlygigs, garden art and more. Easter dinner
Hearts for Homeless will host a free Easter dinner from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Swan Creek Park, 101 U.S. 31, Athens. The purpose of the event is to provide a good meal for anyone in need. Everyone is invited. Easter bunny will be there, so bring your camera to take free photographs. Arbor Day festival
Athens State University will hold a free Arbor Day festival from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, on the lawn of Founders Hall. There will be family friendly activities for all ages. In case of rain, the event will be Saturday, April 20.

New book club
A book club will host its first meeting 3 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Athens-Limestone Public Library, 603 S. Jefferson St., Athens. The meeting will focus on establishing meeting frequency, book suggestions and basic guidelines for the group going forward. More information: 256-614-3530.

Chicken dinner
First Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host a whole hog express dinner to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful is seeking exhibitors and vendors for its 11th annual Earth Day & Outdoor Expo to be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in Athens. Plant sale
Athens Garden Club will host its spring plant sale 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the corner of Washington and Jefferson streets. Arranged hanging baskets featuring a variety of colorful florals will be sold for $20 each to benefit the club’s scholarship fund. Friends of the Ardmore Public Library will host the annual Spring Bake/Craft Sale from 9 a.m.–noon Saturday, May 4, at the library, 25836 Main St., Ardmore, Tennessee. Items to be sold include baked goods, eggs and other farm products, clothing, jewelry, quilts, ceramics, stamping supplies, Avon, Pampered Chef, flower arrangements, woodworking items, denim crafts, Tupperware and more. Inspirational fisherman
Greenbrier Baptist Church will host fisherman Clay Dyer at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the church at 7939 Greenbrier Road, Madison. Dyer is a professional bass fisherman born without lower limbs or a left arm and with a partial right arm. Bethel Cemetery

Head Start
Community Action Partnership of North Alabama is accepting applications for early Head Start, preschool Head Start and state pre-K Head Start for the 2019–2020 school year. The Head Start programs are for children 3–4 years old. Parents must provide birth certificate; verification of 2018 income in the form of a W-2 form, check stub, Social Security statement, child support, unemployment, etc.; and Medicaid or insurance card, if available. Nonperishable food drive
Lil Red Wagon Collections at 208 N. Houston St., Athens, is open 9 a.m.–7 p.m. the first week of each month to collect nonperishable food for local homeless people. Donated items will be given to Limestone County Churches Involved, which will distribute them.

Spaghetti dinner
The Vietnam Veterans of America will host a spaghetti dinner the third Monday of each month through October. Dinner consists of spaghetti, cole slaw or salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. People can either eat in or carry out. The cost of a plate is $8. Dinners will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the VVA building at 17915 W. Elm St., Athens. • Democratic. Limestone County Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Democrat Headquarters, 22143 U.S. 72 East, Athens. The meeting will focus on Earth Day. There will be a presentation on how Alabama compares to other states in various areas, on recycling in Limestone County and on the factual highlights of the Green New Deal, among other items.
