Event will focus on Tuscaloosa civil rights history

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — An event in Alabama will educate the public about some history from the civil rights era.
The Tuscaloosa News reports that the April 25 gathering will focus on “Bloody Tuesday.”

On June 9, 1964, marchers protesting segregated drinking fountains and restrooms in the new Tuscaloosa County Courthouse were confronted by an angry mob and tear gas.
A documentary by Whitney Kemp will be shown during the event at Stillman College, followed by a question-and-answer panel discussion. The event is sponsored by the Racial Reconciliation Initiative of Tuscaloosa and the college.
