Prep Sports Roundup: Lindsay Lane sweeps St. Bernard

Lindsay Lane Christian had a positive end to its Class 1A, Area 14 season, as the Lions swept St. Bernard Prep in dominating fashion Thursday, winning the two games by a combined score of 39-0.
The Lions scored 10 runs in the first inning of game one, and went on to win 19-0, before performing even better in the second game, taking a 20-0 victory.
Caleb Johnson and Charlie Morrison were the hitting stars of the first game, combining for five hits and nine RBIs. Johnson had three hits and five RBIs, while Morrison had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs.
Micah Perkins had three hits for LLCA, while Camden Shields and Camryn Peden had two hits each, with one of Peden’s hits being a double.
Johnson was also dominant on the mound, pitching a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 11.
Lindsay Lane kept it offensive attack going in the second game, as the Lions pounded out 16 hits in the victory.
Peden was the standout performer, hitting a home run and two doubles to lead the Lions with five RBIs. Morrison and Shields had two hits each, while Drew Turpen hit a double.
Ray Anderson and William Woodall combined on the shutout, with Anderson pitching the first three innings and Woodall working the final two.
Muscle Shoals 3, Athens 0
Muscle Shoals took the first step toward winning a Class 6A, Area 15 championship with a victory over Athens Thursday night.
With both teams having swept Columbia, the winner of this series will be the area champions. Athens would need to win both games of a doubleheader at home Friday night.
Thursday’s game was a pitcher’s duel, with Muscle Shoals’ Carson Knight tossing a complete-game shutout. Athens’ Isaac Evans pitched well, allowing just one earned run and striking out nine, but it wasn’t quite enough. Muscle Shoals scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
Athens was held to just five singles in the game. James Clem, Tucker Stockman, Tyde Robinson, Parker Willoughby and Josh Simmons had the hits for the Golden Eagles.
Brooks 10-12, Elkmont 0-5
Brooks swept a doubleheader from Elkmont Thursday to finish area play undefeated.
Elkmont was held to just three hits in the first game, which Brooks won in five innings. Jaevan Jackson had two hits to lead the Red Devils, while Preston Robinson had the other hit.
Brooks jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the second game, and held off an Elkmont comeback attempt. Ryan Boyd had two doubles for Elkmont, while Shane Boger, Mykell Murrah and Jordan Fielding each had a hit and an RBI for the Red Devils.
Softball
Scottsboro 11, East Limestone 4
East Limestone had 10 hits, but was undone by seven errors in a loss to Scottsboro Thursday.
East scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 5-4, but Scottsboro scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to pull away.
Rylie Grisham hit a home run to lead East Limestone, while Mallory Jo Mitchell, Cassidy Sowell and Olivia Crouch had two hits each.
