County supports work-zone awareness efforts

This week is National Work-Zone Awareness Week, and the Limestone County Commission wants drivers to know county employees are often in harm’s way while repairing roads.

Engineer Marc Massey wants residents to be cautious when entering work zones, especially if flagmen are present.

As a show of support, The Retirement Systems of Alabama was set to light up its Mobile and Montgomery towers in orange Wednesday. Massey asked that the Limestone County Courthouse also be lighted in orange as a way to mark the occasion locally.

“It will signify that we support this,” he said at Wednesday’s County Commission work session. “We have a lot of guys out there in the middle of the road when there’s cars coming by.”

Elsewhere Wednesday, District 2 Commission Steve Turner praised resurfacing work performed by the county’s engineering crew on Nick Davis Road.

“It’s as good as any paving work in my district by anybody, contractors included,” he said.

The commission will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting at 10 a.m. Monday on the second floor of the Clinton Street Courthouse Annex.
