An Elkmont man accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the throat, pushing her against a shower wall and making it difficult for her to breathe has been charged with domestic violence — strangulation/suffocation, court records show.

Ricky Glenn Smith, 54, of 16152 Witty Mill Road, was arrested on the charge March 20 after his girlfriend made the accusation, according to the complaint filed in Limestone County District Court by Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jake Abernathy, who made the arrest.
