The sixth Youth Education and Awareness Conference with STEaM is seeking sponsors for its upcoming event.

The free, one-day conference provides area students with the opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and more through a series of activities and games designed by Athens State University professors and local organizations. The STEaM conference is set for 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, on the Athens State campus.

YEA Conference Founder and Committee Chair Dr. Quanda Watson-Stevenson praised the conference for giving students a unique environment for developing STEaM-related skills and sharing them with others.

“This conference is so important, because it gives students a chance to learn about STEaM without worrying about grades,” Watson-Stevenson said. “A lot of times, kids are restricted to only those (lessons) offered by schools and have to meet a certain grade.”

Breakfast and lunch will be provided to students. There will also be age-specific sessions and presentations for students, and related competitions and games.

“For each (part of the) acronym, we have different things for them,” Watson-Stevenson said. “For science, we have professors from our biology and chemistry departments that will have games.”

Cyber Huntsville, one of the sponsors already registered for the event, will provide cybersecurity activities for kids. There will also be forensic activities and presentations from PROJECTXYZ.
