Prep Softball Roundup: East Limestone takes down West, 8-4

East Limestone took an early lead and held on to defeat West Limestone 8-4 Thursday night.
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Mallory Jo Mitchell and run-scoring double by Rylie Grisham.
East expanded the lead to 6-0 with a run in the fourth on a Cassidy Sowell double, and three more in the fifth on an RBI single by Sowell and a two-run single by Becca Newby.
West came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, with the big hit being an RBI double by Allison Perry, but East answered back with two runs in the top of the sixth and Sowell picking up her third RBI of the game on another run-scoring single. Zoey Allen also had an RBI single in the inning.
West closed the gap in the top of the seventh on RBI singles by Perry and Raegan Clem, but it wasn’t enough.
Olivia Crouch, Kaci Sharp had doubles for East Limestone, while Perry had two doubles for West. Crouch was also the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game, striking out 11 and walking none.
Lexington 11, Elkmont 7
Elkmont pounded out 11 hits and seven runs, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Lexington Thursday.
The Golden Bears overcame a 7-4 deficit by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth and added three more runs in the final two innings to pull away.
Abby Gooch and Haven Kirby each had three hits for Elkmont, with Gooch homering and Kirby hitting a double and driving in two runs. Paige Robinson also had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Red Devils.
Late Tuesday results
West Limestone 7, Grissom 6
Raegan Clem hit a triple to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as West Limestone took a dramatic victory over Grissom Tuesday.
The Wildcats entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-5 but tied the game on an RBI single by Allison Perry. Clem then laced a triple down the right field line to score Perry and win the game.
West had taken a 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the first but Grissom took the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. West was able to score just one more run until the dramatic seventh inning.
Victoria Carroll, Monte Pickett and Hannah Wilburn each had doubles for West, while Clem also doubled in addition to her game-winning triple. Pickett and Wilburn each had two RBIs for the Wildcats.
Athens 20, Muscle Shoals 9
Athens scored 13 runs over the final three innings to take a big victory over Muscle Shoals Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles trailed 8-7 heading into the fifth but scored seven runs in the frame to take a big lead. Athens then added four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to complete the blowout.
Gracie Green hit a grand slam and a double to lead Athens, while Morgan Stiles also homered and doubled for the Golden Eagles.
Kadence Miller also had a double for Athens, while Alli Patterson had three hits and Anna Corder chipped in with two hits.

West Limestone boys 4, Ardmore 1
Rudy Teletor scored three goals to lead West Limestone to a victory over Ardmore Thursday night. Shane James also scored, while Angel Medrano and Ivan Mendoza each had an assist.
Alex Alvarado had a great game as goalkeeper, making 15 saves to keep the Wildcats in front.
West Limestone girls 3, Ardmore 2
Katherine Medrano and Stephanie Marcial each had a goal and an assist to lead West Limestone to a slim victory over Ardmore Thursday.
Haven Nichols also scored a goal for the Wildcats, and goalkeeper Alyssa Boone had 11 saves.
