Several North Alabama industries will participate next week in an event designed to teach high school students about a job-readiness program offered at Calhoun Community College.
Finding FAME will serve as a learning opportunity for more than 200 students and provide a way for them to network with sponsor companies, some of which are based in Limestone County. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and tour the FAME lab at the Robotics Technology Park.
FAME is an acronym for Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education.
The program is set for 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, on Calhoun’s Decatur campus.
The event will feature a panel discussion with students now enrolled in the FAME program. They will provide a firsthand account of experiences and opportunities available with sponsor companies.
“Not only will students be able to learn more about educational opportunities leading to in-demand technical careers, but they will also see that education put into action,” said a press release about the event.
Calhoun FAME sponsor companies include:
• Asahi Kasei;
• Brown Precision Inc.;
• Bruderer;
• EFi Automotive;
• GE Appliances, a Haier Company;
• Georgia-Pacific;
• Packaging Corporation of America;
• Polaris;
• Snap-on;
• Sonoco; and
• Toyota.
The FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program includes a two-year technical associate degree that combines cutting-edge curriculum that supports advanced manufacturing technology, paid working experience, along with learning highly sought-after business principles and best practices of a world-class manufacturer.
