The Athens Planning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a final replat of 67 acres at the Breeding Industrial Park.
The largest of the four lots is about 40 acres, which could accommodate a large industry. Earlier this month, the Athens City Council approved paying up to $10,500 for Morell Engineering to survey the park, located on West Sanderfer Road.

In explaining to the council why the survey was needed, Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks hinted an economic development announcement could be imminent.
“We’re hopefully this close to winning a huge project, as you know, so we need to make this happen,” though he did not specify if the project in question would be at the Breeding park or elsewhere.
Public Works Director James Rich told the Planning Commission that “if an industrial client comes,” it would require Jimmy Gill Park, which is on West Sanderfer Road, to be relocated. Prior to the replat, he explained the park was an individual 5-acre lot, but would be consolidated into the 40-acre lot.
