Flood warning continues; strong storms still possible Saturday

Limestone County remains under a flood warning through 7:50 a.m. Monday because of the rising Elk River, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

At 6 a.m. Friday, the stage was 26.4 feet. The flood stage is 25 feet.

Motorists should seek alternate routes if roads near the river are inundated by water. Those living in low-lying areas are advised to move personal belongings to higher ground.

A hazardous weather outlook issued Friday by the NWS says the possibility for severe storms is still possible late Saturday afternoon and during the early evening hours, though the strongest storms could be over northwest Alabama. An additional 2-3 ½ inches of rain, damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes are possible.
