Most of a large fire on Looney Road has been extinguished, according to dispatch reports. Firefighters on the scene were putting out remaining hot spots as of about 5:30 p.m.

The cause of the blaze was unknown, as it was first reported as a brush fire. Smoke from the fire could be seen from downtown Athens.
