The pedestrian who was struck and killed Saturday on the U.S. 31 South causeway in Decatur-annexed Limestone County has been identified.
Decatur Police Department and Limestone County Coroner Mike West identified the pedestrian as 19-year-old William Glen-Austin Stout of Hartselle. DPD said Morgan County Central Dispatch received a call around 9:08 p.m. Saturday from a driver who said he had struck something while crossing the causeway.
“The responding officers made contact with a motor-home parked on the shoulder of Alabama Highway 20 and found evidence on the vehicle, which indicated that it had potentially struck a pedestrian,” according to the release from DPD.
After a search, officers located Stout lying partially submerged in the water. West said the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 South. DPD said the driver is a resident of Fayetteville, Tennessee.
The investigation is ongoing.
