Newly elected Wahl weighs in on future, goals, Trump, buzz

Noah Wahl has been re-elected president of the Limestone County Republican Executive Committee.
The election, held Jan. 29 at Valley Event Center in Athens, also resulted in the election of Adam Hutchins as vice chairman, Caren Sample as secretary and Tara Johnson as treasurer. Officers, who serve two-year terms, are elected in January of odd-numbered years.
In a press release about the officers election, Wahl had this to say:
“I’m truly honored and humbled to be re-elected chairman of the Limestone County Republican Party. I’m looking forward to opportunities to connect with the community, to explain how conservative ideas and a constitutionally limited government will help all Americans. I’m looking forward to helping elect Republicans who have an understanding of the problems that we face and have a passion to find solutions. This position also gives me a seat on the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee, which will allow me to represent Limestone County on the state level.”
Wahl, noting he was reminded of the preamble to the country’s Declaration of Independence, added the following:
“These are the ideals that our founding fathers gave to us all, and they are ideals that I will continue to champion. Being elected chairman is something that I don’t take lightly. My pledge to the people of Limestone County is that I will do my part to “Make American Great Again,” starting right here in Limestone County.”

Fielded questions
Wahl agreed to field the following questions from The News Courier Friday:
Question: What is ahead for your party, both locally and nationally?
Answer: I think the next few years are going to be really important politically. As Republicans, we are our own worst enemy. I cringe when I hear people say it doesn’t matter, Republican or Democrat, they’re all the same. To me, being a Republican means that you support the conservative values that are found in the Republican Party platform. Things like fiscal responsibility, low taxes, government transparency, constitutionally limited government, just to list a few.
Q: As chairman, what are some of your future goals?
A: My No. 1 goal is to support good government at every level. I want to help people understand what the Republican Party is really all about. Most people just hear things about Republicans in Washington, D.C., and think that is what the party is. I can tell you, there are congressmen who have an “R” beside their name who are not really conservatives and are not acting in accord with the GOP platform. I want to get back to basics and show people what the Republican platform is really all about.
Q: Any thoughts on whether GOP voters will stick with Trump or look at some other GOP candidate in 2020?
A: President Trump has been making a lot of news lately. Some people are happy with the president and some people are not. As the Republican Party, we are glad to have a Republican in the White House and look forward to keeping it that way.
Q: If you want Republicans to stick with Trump, what are your arguments in favor? How do you convince voters?
A: With President Trump, people know he will say what he thinks and not beat around the bush, and he is willing to take a stand. He puts America first, not other countries or special interests. The president is strong on ‘Making America Great,’ something we all agree with. I think people are going to stick with Trump and see how things play out.
Q: Any other comments you would like to add?
A: It’s going to be an interesting year in Montgomery. We have a lot of new members in the state House and Senate. I think people are going to be watching how things go this session. I’m hearing a lot of buzz about a gas tax increase. Gun rights and life are also going to be big issues this session. My general feeling is that the majority of people are against any new or increase in taxes. There is a mistrust of government in Montgomery, and the legislators are going to have to work to build back that trust. With a super majority of Republicans in the House and Senate, people are expecting more efficient government, low taxes, low regulations and support of the Constitution.
