- An order of hot wings featuring the words "I couldn't decide how to ask you to PROM so I'm just going to WING it... ...Sooo will you go to PROM with me!?" is displayed Tuesday after being used to ask Breanna Clinard, Athens High School senior, to prom. She said yes.
A young man from Athens used hot wings to ask an Athens High School senior to prom after her attempts to find a date failed.
Bradley Bright met Breanna Clinard through Clinard’s stepsister, Megan. Clinard has special needs, and her mom, Amy Rolin, hired Megan to serve as a caregiver. Through his friendship with Megan, Bright met and became close friends with Rolin, Clinard and the rest of the family.
“We became friends as soon as we met,” Bright said of Clinard. “She’s a bundle of joy every time you see her, even after everything she’s been through.”
Rolin said Clinard has had multiple seizures and a brain surgery that left her prone to outbursts. She’s also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and takes several medications to manage her conditions. A second brain surgery has been discussed.
When talk of prom came around, Clinard shared with her friend that she was struggling to find a date.
“Breanna said she had asked some of her friends from school if they would go to prom with her, and they all told her no,” Bright said. “She got really depressed and didn’t want to go anymore.”
Bright said he talked it over with Clinard’s mom and stepsister, and the trio agreed it would be “really cool” for Bright to take Clinard to prom. They also had an idea for the promposal.
“Hot wings are Bre’s favorite food,” Bright said. “Any time we go out, her favorite restaurant is Touchdown Wings in Athens, so any time we go out to eat, she wants to go to Touchdown Wings.”
On Wednesday, Bright picked up a to-go order of Clinard’s favorite wings and put a piece of paper inside that read, “I couldn’t decide how to ask you to PROM so I’m just going to WING it… …Sooo will you go to PROM with me!?”
“She cried,” Rolin said. “She cried even after she left. I just can’t believe it.”
Rolin said Clinard has already started planning, wanting the whole shebang, but even with prom still months away, Rolin said being on disability means they might have to get creative to pull it off.
“She didn’t think she was going to be able to have a date,” Rolin said. “I’d love to make her a princess. I just want to make this day perfect for her.”
