East Limestone turns up defense in win over West

East Limestone held West Limestone to just 18 points in the final three quarters as the Indians ran out to a 56-32 victory over the Wildcats Thursday night.

West Limestone led 14-7 after one quarter as East played a different starting lineup featuring all of the Indians’ seniors in recognition of senior night.

But once the normal lineup came into the game at the beginning of the second quarter, the Indians took control. East outscored West 15-5 in the second quarter to take a 22-19 halftime lead and then completely dominated the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 34-13 to pull away.

Austin Harvell led East Limestone with 19 points despite not playing in the first quarter, while Keashawn Robinson added 18. West Limestone was led by Braden Tuten with 10 points.

East Limestone is the top seed in next week’s Limestone County Tournament and will play either Ardmore or Elkmont in the semifinals next Thursday, while West Limestone is the No. 3 seed and will play sixth-seeded Clements in the first round Tuesday.

Ardmore 62, Madison Academy 54, OT

Ardmore picked up its first area win of the season, as the Tigers outscored Madison Academy 11-3 in the overtime period to take a thrilling victory.

Ardmore trailed 22-12 after one quarter, but came back in the second quarter to take a 31-30 halftime lead. The Tigers expanded the lead to 42-38 after three quarters, but Madison Academy came back to tie the game at 51 at the end of regulation.

However, Ardmore dominated the overtime period, hitting 7 of 11 free throw attempts to go with a huge 3-point shot by Chase Patterson.

Patterson led Ardmore with 16 points, while Michael Turner chipped in with 10 and Taylor Creekmore and Clay Randolph each scored eight.

Ardmore is the No. 5 seed in the Limestone County Tournament and will play fourth-seeded Elkmont in the first round Monday.

Girls

West Limestone 48, East Limestone 35

West Limestone jumped out to a huge first-half lead and cruised to victory in the second half over East Limestone.

The Wildcats dominated the first half, and took a commanding 32-11 lead into halftime. Cassidy Winter was the offensive catalyst, scoring 17 of her game-high 21 points in the first half.

The scoring slowed down in the second half, as East Limestone’s defense picked up and held West to just 16 points. However, the hole was much too deep to climb out of, and East Limestone never got closer than nine points.

Carlie Belle Winter helped keep the Indians at bay in the fourth quarter by hitting 5 of 6 free throw attempts, and finished the game with 12 points. Caroline Bachus also scored in double figures with 10 points.

East Limestone was led by Hailie Smith with 14 points and Mallory Jo Mitchell with 10.

West Limestone is the No. 1 seed in the Limestone County Tournament, and will play either Tanner or Clements in the semifinal Thursday, while East Limestone is the No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Elkmont in the first round Tuesday.
