GIRLS ROUNDUP: Athens dominates Columbia

Athens improved to 10-9 overall and 2-1 in area play with a 63-31 win over Columbia Friday night. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a big lead early and led 35-18 at halftime. Athens turned up the defense even more in the second half, holding Columbia to just 13 points, including five in the fourth quarter.

Alaina Taylor scored 17 points to lead Athens, while Kendra Smith scored 12 and Gabby Kirby and Talyiah McDonald both chipped in with nine. Nahriyah Timmons had a double-double, with 10 assists and 10 steals.

East Limestone 55, Madison County 51, OT

Sophomore Jirah Rogers scored 34 points as East Limestone outlasted Madison County in overtime to pick up an area win on the road.

The game was tied 51-51 at the end of regulation, and East Limestone outscored Madison County 4-0 in the overtime period to take the victory.

In addition to Rogers’ 34 points, Taylor Thatch scored 10 and Hailie Smith added nine. East Limestone improved to 2-3 in area play.

Ardmore 43, West Morgan 30

Chesney Widner scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half to lead Ardmore to a 13-point victory over West Morgan Friday night.

Ardmore held West Morgan to just four points in the first half, and led 22-4 at halftime despite scoring no points in the second quarter.

Widner scored 10 of Ardmore’s 12 points in the third quarter as the Tigers were able to hold on despite being outscored 30-21 in the final three quarters of the game.

Madison Lewis added eight points for Ardmore. West Morgan was led by Madison Steadham with 11 points.

West Limestone 52, Brooks 36

West Limestone turned up the defense in the second half, holding Brooks to just 11 points in the final two quarters to take an area victory. The victory kept the Wildcats undefeated in area play, as they are now 3-0 in the area and 15-4 overall.

Caroline Bachus led West Limestone with 19 points, while Cassidy Winter added 14 for the Wildcats in the win.

Brooks was led by Sophie Patterson, who scored 13 points.

Lindsay Lane 72, Whitesburg 42

Lindsay Lane Christian outscored Whitesburg Christian 37-9 in the second half to turn a close game into a rout and take an important area victory Friday night.

The Lions led just 35-30 at halftime, but completely dominated the second half, outscoring Whitesburg 16-4 in the third quarter and 21-5 in the fourth.

Madelyn Dizon led Lindsay Lane with 21 points, while Audra Putman scored 19 points and Kaleigh Madagan added 16. Lindsay Lane improved to 3-2 in area play.

Lauderdale County 72, Clements 45

Clements couldn’t hang with Lauderdale County Friday night, as the Tigers had three players in double figures to lead them to victory.

Ruthie Smith led Lauderdale County with 19 points, while Hannah Tate scored 15 and Sydney Maner added 14.

Clements was led by Abby Craig with 10 points.

Shoals Christian 35, Athens Bible 22

Shoals Christian used a 14-0 run in the second half to turn a one-point deficit into a victory over Athens Bible Friday night.

ABS led 15-14 in the third quarter, but Shoals Christian outscored the Trojans 14-0 over the next several minutes to take a 28-15 lead midway through the fourth, and coasted to victory from there.

Sara Woodard scored 14 points to lead Athens Bible. Shoals Christian was led by Catherine Turner, who scored 15 points.

Hatton 33, Tanner 18

Hatton held Tanner to just seven points in the first half and took a 15-point victory over the Rattlers in area play.

Sarah Rubio led Tanner with nine points, while Josie Harville led Hatton with a game-high 17 points.

Saturday’s game

Elkmont 68, Lindsay Lane 41

A huge third quarter offensive surge put Elkmont over Lindsay Lane Christian Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils led 31-20 at halftime, and put the game away by outscoring the Lions 29-12 in the third quarter.

Haven Kirby led Elkmont with 18 points, while Maggie Gant had 15 and Morgan Morris added 13.

Lindsay Lane was led by Madelyn Dizon, who scored 17 points, and Audra Putman, who tallied 13.
