The Decatur City Council plans to annex the Robotics Technology Park into the city limits of Decatur, according to a press release.

The release said the annexation would represent an expansion of the city’s workforce development footprint. The council will review annexation documents at the council work session, set for 5 p.m. Monday on the seventh floor of Decatur City Hall.

Operated through a collaborative effort between the state of Alabama, the Alabama Community College System, and AIDT, the Robotics Technology Park is poised to serve as the primary training source for the workforce of the upcoming Toyota-Mazda assembly plant.

Joining Calhoun Community College as an annexed property on U.S. 31, the RTP would receive Decatur fire and police protection and be served by Decatur Public Works.

“We are overjoyed to welcome the Robotics Technology Park into our city,” said Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling. “Together, we are expanding our educational impact for North Alabama and are securing the necessary services needed for continued growth and advancement. This could not have been accomplished without the support of Secretary Greg Canfield of the Alabama Department of Commerce and AIDT.”
