Prep Basketball: Athens takes win over No. 9 Bearcats

Three players scored in double figures as Athens took a big 59-46 victory over Cullman, the No 9-ranked team in Class 6A.
The Golden Eagles led 22-21 at halftime, but outscored Cullman 17-7 in the third quarter to pull away and then expanded the lead over the Bearcats in the final quarter to take the victory.
Alaina Taylor and Kendra Smith both scored 15 points to lead Athens, while Nahriyah Timmons had a double-double, scoring 13 points and dishing out 10 assists for the Golden Eagles, who improved to 9-9 on the season.
Cullman was led by Olivia Neal, who scored 13 points.
Cullman defeated Athens 79-77 in the boys game. Statistics were not available from that game.
Clements 55, Westminster Christian 23
Clements dominated right from the start in taking an area victory over Westminster Christian. The Colts took an 18-4 lead after one quarter and led 33-10 at halftime before cruising to victory in the second half.
Emrey McGill led Clements with 15 points, while Darby Moore scored 10 and Rilee Gilliam added eight. Clements improved to 2-3 in area play with the victory.
Westminster Christian defeated Clements 53-26 in the boys game. Statistics were not available from that game.
