A multicar garage burns Friday on Elkton Road. Multiple fire departments responded to fight the blaze, but the garage was deemed a total loss.

Multiple fire departments worked together at the scene of a structure fire Friday morning on Elkton Road, just south of Piney Chapel Road. The structure, a multi-car garage, was deemed a total loss.

Athens Fire & Rescue, Piney Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, Owens VFD, Elkmont VFD, Athens Utilities and the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office were among the responders.

Residents in neighboring buildings were evacuated while firefighters hosed the buildings to reduce the risk of the fire spreading. Piney Chapel Elementary School was placed on soft lockdown until the fire was cleared.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
