Government offices in Limestone County and the city of Athens will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holiday. The same offices will also be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday.

The News Courier will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. No papers will be published on those days.

City garbage schedule

The city of Athens’ garbage schedule for next week is as follows:

• Christmas Eve: No changes;

• Christmas Day: No pickup;

• Wednesday: Tuesday’s route will be run;

• Thursday: Wednesday’s route will be run;

• Friday: Thursday’s route will be run; and

• Saturday: Friday’s route will be run.

There are no sanitation changes during the week of New Year’s. Please remember Dec. 31 is the fifth Monday of the month, so there will be no recycling collection. Please have garbage bins to the curb by 6 a.m.

County garbage schedule

• Christmas Eve: No changes;

• Christmas Day: No pickup;

• Wednesday: Tuesday’s route will be run;

• Thursday: Wednesday’s route will be run; and

• Friday: Thursday’s route will be run.

All routes will be run early, so residents are asked to put garbage at the curb the night before.
