Lindsay Lane sweeps games from ABS

Lindsay Lane Christian swept a pair of basketball games from rival Athens Bible, winning the boys game 68-37 and the girls game 55-27.

In the boys game, Lindsay Lane jumped out to a 20-10 lead after one quarter and expanded it to a commanding 41-21 lead at halftime before cruising to victory in the second half.

Tommy Murr led the Lions with 35 points, while Charlie Morrison added 14.

Athens Bible was led by Kacen Pierce with 16 points.

Lindsay Lane also took a commanding victory in the girls game, putting the game away early by outscoring Athens Bible 21-5 in the first quarter.

Audra Putman was dominant for the Lions, scoring 26 points and grabbing six rebounds. Madelyn Dizon added eight points, eight steals and six rebounds, while Ava Whitmire had nine points and six rebounds.

Athens Bible was led by Leighton Barksdale with 12 points.

Boys

West Limestone 59, Elkmont 39

Braden Tuten scored 16 points as West Limestone put up a 20-point victory over county rival Elkmont Friday night.

Chyse Carter added 10 points for West, while Camryn Williams added six points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Elkmont was led by Davis Hobbs, who scored 10 points.

Hartselle 72, Athens 58

Athens had no answer for Hartselle’s Brody Peebles in a 14-point loss Friday night. Peebles scored 36 points for the Tigers, including hitting five 3-pointers in the win.

Athens led 16-14 after one quarter, but Hartselle controlled the second quarter to take a 35-26 lead into halftime. The Tigers then held Athens at bay in the second half, outscoring them 37-32 to take the victory.

Tyler Williams led Athens with 15 points, while Chandler Leopard and Takorian Porter both scored 10.

In addition to Peebles’ 36 points, Hartselle was led by Keondre Swoops with 14 and Tad Sivley with nine.

Girls

West Limestone 70, Elkmont 41

West Limestone recovered from a disappointing loss to Priceville Tuesday to take a dominating win over Elkmont in their first area game Friday night.

Caroline Bachus was the lynchpin for the victory, but she got quite a bit of help from the Winter sisters.

Bachus scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Wildcats, while the Winters combined for 30.

Cassidy Winter scored 17 points for West, while little sister Carlie Winter added 13.

Elkmont was led by Haven Kirby with 13 points.

Hartselle 57, Athens 52

A huge second-half comeback fell just short for Athens, as the Golden Eagles came five points short of pulling off an upset victory over undefeated Hartselle.

The Golden Eagles found themselves down 38-22 at halftime, but outscored Hartselle 17-9 in the third quarter to get back in the game.

Athens pulled even closer in the fourth, but just couldn’t get over the hump and fell just a few points shy of victory.

Three players scored in double figures for Athens (3-5), with Nahriyah Timmons and Kendra Smith both scoring 16 points and Alaina Taylor chipping in with 10.

Hartselle (8-0) was led by Moriah Taylor with 15 points and Kalli Cartee with 11.
