Prep Basketball: East Limestone gets past Athens

Austin Harvell scored 23 points, while East Limestone held on to defeat Athens 55-52 Tuesday night.

The game was close throughout, as the teams were tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. East Limestone pulled out to a 33-28 halftime lead.

Athens closed to within 46-43 at the end of the third quarter, but East Limestone was able to stave off the Golden Eagles’ comeback attempt with some strong defense in the final period.

In addition to Harvell’s 23 points, La’Garian Gilbert scored 15 for East Limestone in the victory.

Athens was led by Chandler Leopard with 16 points and Tyler Williams with 11.

Tanner 93, Clements 51

Five Tanner players scored in double figures as the Rattlers raced out to a big early lead and cruised to a victory over Clements Tuesday night.

Tanner led 27-8 after one quarter and had a 51-25 halftime lead. The Rattlers then scored 30 points in the third quarter to take an 81-34 lead into the fourth before cruising to the finish.

Nathan Montgomery led the way for Tanner with 28 points, while Malik Atkins finished with 15. DaShaun McNabb added 12, while Jaquan Thompson and J.J. Jones each scored 10.

Clements was led by J.T. Farrar, who finished with a game-high 29 points. Shane Starns added 13 points for the Colts.

Both teams will play Friday night, with Tanner playing at Hatton and Clements traveling to Lexington.

Lindsay Lane 86, Oakwood Adventist 73

Tommy Murr and Charlie Morrison combined to score 70 points as Lindsay Lane Christian Academy held off a challenge from Oakwood Adventist Tuesday night.

Murr scored 43 points in the game, while Morrison added 27, including five 3-pointers. Murr also had 10 assists. The Lions opened up a 44-28 halftime lead and were able to keep Oakwood at bay in the second half, thanks to 19 combined points in the fourth quarter from Murr and Morrison.

Emory McIntosh scored 30 points to lead Oakwood Adventist.

Girls

East Limestone 53, Athens 37

A big second quarter allowed East Limestone to pull away from Athens and take a 16-point victory Tuesday over the Golden Eagles.

The Indians led just 11-9 after one quarter but outscored Athens 16-6 in the second period to take a 27-15 halftime lead. They extended the lead to 45-25 after three quarters and cruised to victory in the fourth.

Jirah Rogers led East Limestone with 16 points, while Taylor Thatch added 12 for the Indians. Athens was led by Nahriyah Timmons with 12 points and Kendra Smith with nine.

Clements 43, Tanner 25

A fourth-quarter surge turned a close game into a runaway as Clements pulled away from Tanner to take an 18-point win Tuesday.

The Colts led just 28-23 after three quarters, but outscored Tanner 15-2 in the fourth quarter to take the victory.

The game was a defensive struggle from the start, as Tanner led 7-3 after one quarter. Clements came back to take an 18-16 lead into halftime and extended the lead to five points after three quarters before pulling away in the final eight minutes.

Emrey McGill led Clements with 20 points, while Darby Moore added seven and Anslee Gordon chipped in six. Tanner was led by Shauna Fletcher with eight points.
