Each of the 16 puppies abandoned last week at the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter has been adopted.

Dr. Robert Pitman, chief veterinarian at Limestone Veterinary Clinic, said homes were found for all the pups, which were from two different litters. One litter was 9-10 weeks old, while the other was 6-7 weeks old.

The puppies were put in an outside kennel at the shelter on the evening of Monday, Nov. 19. They were left outside in the cold and rain until shelter staff found them the next morning.

Pitman said he hopes the public will come forward and identify the two women who dropped off the dogs. Surveillance video shows two women bundled in heavy coats dropping off the puppies shortly after 7 p.m. They were in a dark-colored Ford Expedition.

Anyone with information about the puppy dumpers is asked to call Pitman’s office at 256-233-1515.
