City garbage
Athens’ Sanitation Department has released the following Thanksgiving week, today-Nov. 23, garbage pickup schedule: Today and Wednesday pickup — no change; No pickup Thanksgiving Day; Thursday pickup will be done Friday and Friday pickup will be done Saturday. Please have bins to the curb by 6 p.m.
County garbage
No change to county garbage pickup Thanksgiving week, today-Nov. 23. Normal routes will be run even on Thanksgiving Day. However, routes will be run early due to the holiday so please place garbage out the night before, if possible.
Hospital jewelry fundraiser
Athens-Limestone Hospital Education Department will hold a $5 Masquerade jewelry and accessories sale from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. today. Proceeds will benefit the Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary scholarship fund. Cash, debit card, credit card and payroll deductions accepted.
Chicken stew
American Legion will host it’s monthly chicken stew lunch 10 a.m.-1 p.m. today. Cost is $7, all-you-can-eat or $7 per quart carry-out. Eat-in includes stew, drinks and desserts. Desserts for carry-outs (two per quart purchased, four desserts maximum) cost $1 each. Containers provided for carry-outs. Free delivery in Athens city limits for businesses and the homebound. Vets museum holiday closing
The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives in Athens will be closed Nov. 22-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Festival of Trees
The Donnell House Festival of Trees will be 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving); and Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24-25. Admission is $5, with those age 12 and under admitted free.

Jingle Paws
Pet photos are now being accepted by the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter for the Jingle Paws fundraiser and North Pole Stroll trees. Cost is $10 per picture. Vegetarian food drive
HCCNA will hold a vegetarian food drive for the Food Bank of North Alabama now through Dec. 16. Items needed include canned vegetables; peanut butter; vegetarian soup, chili or stew; paper products; diapers; vegetarian dinner kits; breakfast cereal; and canned fruit. Holiday home tour
Tickets will be on sale until 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, for the Athens Ladies Civitan Club’s eighth annual Bells of Christmas Holiday Home Candlelight Tour, which will held 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. The nine homes on the tour, all in the Robert Beaty Historical District in Athens, are in keeping with this year’s bicentennial celebration. Refreshments will be served at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, catered by C&A Catering. Tickets are on sale at Crawford’s Gifts, Pimentos, Garnets and Sweetest Things Tea Room, all on the downtown Square. Advance price is $20; $25 on the day of the tour at any of the tour homes. Homeless donations needed
Lil Red Wagon Collections at 208 N. Houston St., Athens, is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. the first week of each month to collect donations for local homeless people. Donated items will be given to Limestone County Churches Involved, which will distribute the items.
