Before Athens and Limestone County stuff turkeys on Thanksgiving, First United Methodist Church is once again asking for help in stuffing a truck.

This year’s Stuff-A-Truck food drive will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at First National Bank at the corner of Lindsay Lane and U.S. 72 in Athens. Donors can bring nonperishable items to the bank’s parking lot, where someone will meet and accept the donation.

Donations will go to the community’s needy through Limestone County Churches Involved.

“Because LCCI’s food donations are down, it is so important that we have a successful food drive,” said event organizer Ida Terry in a press release. “Please start taking advantage of sales and fill your trunks, so we can fill our van to overflowing and assure that no man, woman or child in Limestone County will ever be hungry.”

Examples of items that can be donated include pancake mix or syrup; canned fruits, meats, tuna or vegetables; boxed crackers or potatoes; packaged rice or beans; spaghetti noodles or sauce; boxed macaroni and cheese; beef stew, ravioli or chili; peanut butter; jelly; canned soup; boxed cereal; toilet paper; and bar soap or other personal hygiene items.
