National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child kicks off Monday, Nov. 12, and runs through Nov. 19.

Since it was founded in 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered 135 million gift-filled packages to children in 150 different countries. Shoebox gifts can be filled with new toys, school supplies and hygiene items. Toothpaste and candy are no longer allowed due to shipping restrictions.

Those interested in donating a shoebox can drop off their packages at Wooley Springs Baptist Church or at Clements Baptist Church.

Dana Williams, a representative from Samaritan Purse Ministries, said Athens volunteers hope to collect more than 52,000 gifts to contribute to Operation Christmas Child’s 2018 goal of reaching 11 million children in need.
