Class of 1956 lunch

Veterans program

SPARK Academy @ Cowart will host a Veterans Day program at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the school’s auditorium. Veterans, their families and members of the community are invited. The program is presented by the school’s second grade with reception to follow.

Toys for Tots

The U.S. Marine Corps and United Way of Athens-Limestone County will be accepting applications for the Toys for Tots Program 9 a.m.–noon and 1–4 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 at the United Way of Athens-Limestone County office, 419 S. Marion St., Athens. The program is for children from birth to 12 years old only. Parents/guardians must bring proof of income, picture ID, proof of residency in Limestone County, birth certificates for eligible children and Social Security cards for eligible children. Bean and rice giveaway

Tanner United Methodist Church will hold beans and rice day 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at 19607 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road. Each adult will receive a 1-pound bag of beans and rice. No questions asked.

Women’s conference

Veterans Day parade

Free garden workshop

Shred, recycle, drug-collection drive

Stuff-A-Truck food drive

First United Methodist Church will sponsor the 8th annual Stuff-A-Truck event to help feed Limestone County’s hungry through Limestone County Churches Involved. The event will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the parking lot of First National Bank, at the corner of U.S. 72 and Lindsay Lane. Quilt celebration

Athens Dixie Stitchers, Athens Friendship Quilters and North Alabama Modern Quilt Guild will host the free Athens Quilt Celebration 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. Hospital jewelry fundraiser

Athens-Limestone Hospital Education Department will hold a $5 Masquerade jewelry and accessories sale from 1 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18; 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19; and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Proceeds will benefit the Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary scholarship fund. Cash, debit card, credit card and payroll deductions accepted.

Swamp John’s

Jingle Paws

Pet photos are now being accepted by the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter for the Jingle Paws fundraiser and North Pole Stroll trees. Cost is $10 per picture. Homeless donations needed

Lil Red Wagon Collections at 208 N. Houston St., Athens, is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. the first week of each month to collect donations for local homeless people. Donated items will be given to Limestone County Churches Involved, which will distribute the items.

RSVP seeking tutors

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is recruiting school tutors to assist students in grades K-3 with reading. Call 256-232-7207.

SNAP signup

Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older.
