As many as 2,000 attendees and 700 volunteers are expected to descend on Swan Creek Park in Athens Saturday as part of the Convoy of Hope.

Attendees, referred to as “guests of honor,” will receive free haircuts, groceries, health screenings, family portraits and employment services. There will also be activities for children.

The event begins at 10 a.m.

Describing the outreach event as multidenominational, event spokesman Freddy Leonard wants people to understand that while Convoy of Hope is a Christian organization, everyone is welcome to attend.

“This day is for members of the community who are hopeless, destitute and need a helping hand,” he said. “We invite the homeless, the poor, those who don’t have a lot of family, the lonely, and those who maybe don’t know about all the church and community services available to them in Limestone County.”
