Brooks races past Elkmont 61-7

Elkmont’s defense could not contain Brooks’ powerful offense, as the Lions raced to a 61-7 victory over the Red Devils Friday night.

Brooks had 498 yards of total offense while holding Elkmont to just 76 yards of offense. Christopher Spurgeon had 195 passing yards and four touchdown passes for Brooks in the victory.

Brooks got the scoring started quickly with three first-quarter touchdowns. Spurgeon had touchdown passes to Noah Turbyfill (20 yards) and Nathaniel Dickerson (27 yards) while Turbyfill also had an 18-yard touchdown run.

Elkmont’s only touchdown came late in the first quarter on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Davis Hobbs to Sean Jordan.

Brooks kept up the scoring in the second quarter with three more touchdowns. Spurgeon had two more touchdown passes to Turbyfill of 15 and 36 yards, while Turbyfill had a 3-yard touchdown run of his own as Brooks led 41-7 at halftime.

The Lions scored twice more in the third quarter. Trey Patterson had a 1-yard touchdown run and Cameron Doerflinger had a 17-yard touchdown run. The final touchdown was scored in the fourth quarter, when Camryn Beckwith had a 4-yard touchdown run.

Davis Hobbs was 2 of 4 passing for 53 yards and a touchdown to lead Elkmont, while Ben Hobbs was the leading receiver with a 39-yard catch.

The Red Devils are now 2-7 and close out their season next Friday by hosting Falkville.
