Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed Wednesday a 23-year-old has died days after a car hit him on U.S. 72 in eastern Limestone County.

Cameron Wayne Richardson was walking home from a store on U.S. 72 when the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt struck him around 8:41 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 8 miles east of Athens near Newby Road, according to Senior Alabama State Trooper Chuck Daniel and Facebook data.

The driver of the Cobalt was not injured and remained on the scene, Daniel said. Richardson was air-lifted to Huntsville Hospital for treatment but died Tuesday, Daniel said. Troopers listed Richardson’s address as Columbia, Tennessee, but his Facebook account lists him as an Athens resident and West Limestone grad.

Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate.
