Patients in east Athens have a new option in how they fill their prescriptions, thanks to Athens-Limestone Hospital.

The Athens-Limestone Hospital Community Pharmacy No. 2 opened Sept. 19 in Suite 120 of the new surgical center at 22454 U.S. 72 in Athens. In addition to serving patients of the outpatient center and The Orthopaedic Center, the pharmacy is open to the public.

“We have a lot of employees and patients over here,” said pharmacy manager Sara Glenn Tanksley. “I think it’s more convenient for the outside public to not be located in the hospital but in an outpatient facility that’s easier to access.”

The pharmacy offers a drive-thru for customers, but those who venture inside can also browse the pharmacy’s retail section for snacks, drinks and over-the-counter items.

Tanksley said they are also set up for electronic prescriptions to further save time for customers. Doctors can send prescriptions to the pharmacy, regardless of the patient’s history with ALH Community Pharmacy No. 2, and the pharmacy can have it ready and waiting for the patient’s arrival.

Tanksley said the pharmacy is also open for people who may have questions about their current prescriptions. Anyone in need of a consultation can call 256-262-6450 to reach Tanksley or the on-duty pharmacy technician.

ALH Community Pharmacy No. 2 is open 8:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
