Elkmont can’t contain Rogers in 56-20 loss

Rogers’ powerful rushing offense was too much for Elkmont to overcome as the Red Devils fell 56-20 to the Pirates at home Friday night.
Rogers had 480 total yards, with 392 of them coming on the ground. Two Pirates running backs had more than 100 yards, with Clay Crafton totaling 172 yards and Logan Evans gaining 107.

Rogers wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard, as Harris Anerton had a 19-yard touchdown run just over 3 minutes into the game to put the Pirates up 7-0. Rogers added two more first-quarter touchdowns, with quarterback Alex Rogers tossing a 44-yard touchdown pass to Anerton before Nicholas Buttrum had a 5-yard touchdown run on the final play of the quarter.
Elkmont fought back in the second quarter, and outscored the Pirates 14-7 to take a little momentum into the locker room. The Red Devils got on the board when Davis Hobbs threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to his twin brother Ben Hobbs.
Rogers answered with a 54-yard touchdown run by Crafton, but Elkmont got the final points of the half when Clay Hunt recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown with just 51 seconds remaining in the first half to make the score 28-14.
Unfortunately for Elkmont, Rogers would come out strong in the third quarter and put the game away with three touchdowns.
It took less than two minutes for the Pirates to score after halftime, as Evans had a 26-yard touchdown run. Buttrum then scored the next two touchdowns, the first on a 24-yard run and the second from 26 yards away.
Austin Keeton closed the scoring for the Pirates midway through the fourth quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Elkmont got the final score of the game with 2:02 remaining when Jonah Smith rushed for a 3-yard touchdown. Smith was Elkmont’s leading rusher with 51 yarsd on five carries. Davis Hobbs had 57 yards passing with Ben Hobbs being the team’s leading receiver with his 41-yard scoring reception.
Elkmont fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in Class 4A, Region 8. The Red Devils will travel to play Brooks next week.
