Food distribution
Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church will host a food distribution from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1911 Hine St., Athens, while supplies last. To participate, households must meet one or more of the following requirements: eligible to receive food stamps or supplemental food assistance; eligible for temporary assistance to needy families or AFDC program; eligible to receive SSI; meet income minimums available at distribution site; or be experiencing special circumstances, such as fire, flood, illness or injury. Domestic violence book speech
Yolanda Turner will speak about her book on domestic violence — “Morning Glory: A 52-Week Devotional” — 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Fellowship of Faith Church in Huntsville and 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Hampton Inn in Athens. Car show/barbecue lunch
Truth Baptist Church of Athens will hold its third annual car show and barbecue lunch Saturday, Oct. 20, at 19297 Sewell Road, Athens. Entry fee is $25 per vehicle; free to spectators. Barbecue plates or sandwiches with sides are $7. Jars of homemade sauce are $5. Door prizes will be drawn every 15 minutes starting at 11 a.m. for car owners only. Awards, including preacher’s choice ($100 plus a trophy) and people’s choice ($100 plus a trophy), will begin at 2 p.m. People’s choice tickets are $1 and can be purchased by owners and spectators. Toys for Tots
The U.S. Marine Corps and United Way of Athens-Limestone County will be accepting applications for the Toys for Tots Program 9 a.m.–noon and 1–4 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 at the United Way of Athens-Limestone County office, 419 S. Marion St., Athens. The program is for children from birth to 12 years old only. Homeless donations needed
Lil Red Wagon Collections at 208 N. Houston St., Athens, is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. the first week of each month to collect donations for local homeless people. Donated items will be given to Limestone County Churches Involved, which will distribute them to the homeless.
RSVP needs volunteers
Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is recruiting volunteers from now until Oct. 31 to assist in preparing tax returns for low-income and elderly residents. Training begins in fourth quarter of 2018 and continues through January 2019. Tax preparation runs Feb. 1 through April 15. Call 256-232-7207.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older.
