Bad weather can’t stop local runners

Chilly temperatures and a steady rain didn’t hold back high school runners at the 42nd annual Athens Bible Invitational cross country meet at the Athens Sportsplex Tuesday afternoon.
The race, the oldest continuous cross country race in Alabama, went off without a hitch, and local runners put in some good performances.
Athens Bible’s Nicolas Ulrich was the top local finisher, placing third in the boys 1A-3A division in a time of 18:05.50. He was followed by teammate Andrew Hall, who placed fifth in a time of 18:41.75. The Trojans finished in third place in the team event. Case Joel, Samuel Matthews and Christopher Waddell also scored points for ABS.
Lindsay Lane Christian also competed in the 1A-3A race, placing seventh in the team competition. The top Lions finisher was Brady Anderson, who placed 11th in a time of 19:36.86. Also scoring points for Lindsay Lane were Henry Woodall, Griffin Turner, Michael Kitchen and Joseph Graves.
Ardmore, Elkmont and East Limestone all participated in the boys 4A-7A division, with the Tigers having the best team performance with a seventh place finish. Ardmore’s Bryson Rollin and Carter Richardson were the top local finishers, placing 33rd and 35th in times of 19:54.06 and 19:58.76, respectively.
Also scoring points for the Tigers were Jeffrey Martin, Andrew Flannagan and Skyler McLeod.
Elkmont finished eighth in the team competition, with Christian Smith’s 41st-place finish being the top Red Devil performance. Smith’s time was 20:11.07. Also scoring for Elkmont were Jon Mikel Owens, Brantley Hammock, Jonah Smith and Preston Brown.
East Limestone placed 11th in the team competition, with Dylan Irvan being the top Indians finisher. Irvan was 56th overall in a time of 21:13.12. Also scoring points for East were Andrew Lacy, Colton Chambers, Jacob Turner and Charlie Threet.
In the girls race, Elkmont’s Claudia Allen was the top local finisher, placing seventh in the 4A-7A division in a time of 21:55.46. The Red Devils were eighth as a team, with Jazmin Ristau, Britney Clem, Emma Guithrie and Abby Hastings also scoring points.
Ardmore placed sixth as a team, and was led by Larissa Poole and Grace Betterton, who finished in 18th and 19th in times of 23:57.23 and 24:11.86, respectively. Also scoring points for the Tigers were Malaya Stone, Deven Hargrove and Sofia Iturradle.
Athens Bible had a good performance in the girls 1A-3A division, placing fourth as a team. Lillian Bradford was the top finisher with a 12th place finish in a time of 23:25.45. Jessie Green, Jolie Green, Tanner Ledbetter and Claire Sandlin also scored points for the Trojans.
